Pope admires immorally dressed performer

In his first general audience of the year on January 8, 2014, Pope Francis admired circus performances. Among the performers, a young female juggler stood out, above. She was wearing a skin-colored tight leotard that revealed most of the contours of her body. For some unwary viewers she might appear nude, below first row.

Far from being upset over this breach of Catholic Morals in his presence, Francis euphorically applauded her act, second row, performed with other fellow-jugglers, as shown in this video.

He commented: "These people were great. Congratulations. I invite them, as they travel from city to city, to feel like messengers of joy and brotherhood in a society that needs these things so much." (news report here)

  1. Who was responsible for putting that temptation before our Holy Father?

    1. Probably somebody he appointed to the position responsible for arranging such things?
He clearly did not see it as a temptation nor anything wrong with it at all...

    What makes you say that?

    1. His comment on the performers as well as his face during the performance (smiling).
"These people were great. Congratulations. I invite them, as they travel from city to city, to feel like messengers of joy and brotherhood in a society that needs these things so much."

  3. Could his smile have been an act of grace under pressure?
Or could this all have been dubbed?
Since he does not speak English, could this be an inaccurate translation?

    1. a.) I am reading a book called Dignity and Duties of the Priest by St. Alphonsus. It speaks of the absolute perfection required to be a priest. How much more the Pope? True, they are human, but they need to be fearless and not phased by considerations for human dignity which can result in grave sin if it misleads an entire people or causes the ruin of souls. I would hope he is not so motivated by human respect as not to speak the truth...
b.) what do you mean dubbed? like it's fake? no...it's not fake.
c.) No, it is not possible his statement was mistranslated. The Vatican has the best translators in the world working for them...or perhaps only secondary to the United Nations. To be totally candid, I get really frustrated by this constant suggestion that everything is just a big mistranslation, whether its the Vatican II documents or something the Pope says. It's just not a probable...maybe once in a blue moon, but no so much as to make him say these performers are a joy and that they were great...unless the Italian word for "great" resembles the word "awful" and "joy" close to "immodest?"

And considering Pope Francis approves of much worse than this in the Tango, I really think you have to accept he believes this is both great and joyful.
